Cherries have their pick as Ro

THE most positive aspects of Tranmere's start to the new season remain a mystery to the majority of supporters who do not travel further than Prenton Park to watch their football. However much encouragement fans might take from reports and comments about the performances at Walsall and Huddersfield over the last fortnight, the evidence of their own eyes painted a disappointing picture on Saturday.

Rovers, narrowly beaten by a more efficient Oldham Athletic team on the opening day of the League One campaign, were second best by a more emphatic margin this time.

All of the organisation and composure that earned Les Parry's team a Carling Cup win at the Bescot Stadium and a merited point at the Galpharm peeled away in the time it took to boot a mlb jerseys wholesale ball from one end of the pitch to the other.

Michael Symes' long clearance out of defence on eight minutes went straight down the middle and found Tranmere's covering defenders out of position. Once the pacey Josh Mc-Quoid raced past John Welsh, he had a clear run into the Tranmere penalty area and guided a low shot under the body of advancing goalkeeper Joe Collister. The home side, strong and bright during the first eight minutes, lost confidence and cohesion very quickly after that. Tranmere soon surrendered a second goal, a penalty converted by striker Symes 10 minutes later. From that point onwards, they were a team chasing a lost cause.

Very little went right Rovers, no matter how hard they tried. A brief surge, sparked by a change of formation at half-time from 4-3- 3 to 4-4-2, ran out of steam after the visitors added a third goal through Mark Pugh on 61 minutes.

Rovers were unconvincing where they had looked assured against the Saddlers and the Terriers. Teenager Collister endured a couple of anxious episodes when the communication with the defenders in front of him was not what it should have been. The back four had a centre soft enough for the visitors' quick front men to pierce on several occasions. When Tranmere attempted to step on to the offensive, their passing and movement lacked penetration to trouble the Cherries' defence.

It would be easy to rush to the judgement that the 4-3-3 system, while suited to the cagey, counter attacking game Tranmere play away from home, is less effective when they attempt to take the initiative at Prenton christian louboutin shoes Park. But the fact remains the 4-3-3 set up delivered the 10 home wins Rovers posted under Les Parry last season and provided the bulk of the points that kept them safe from relegation.

Bournemouth played 4-4-2 while storming out of League Two last season. Their leading scorer, Brett Pitman, was tying up a move to Bristol City over the weekend but home-produced talent McQuoid served notice that he is capable of being a good replacement. "Who needs Pitman?" Bournemouth's modest contingent of travelling fans sang after the second goal hit the net on 17 minutes.

The penalty followed an interchange around the edge of the Rovers box in which McQuoid turned away from Wood and set up Symes, who was ready to shoot when felled by Ian Goodison's lunging tackle. Symes then sent Collister the wrong way with his spot kick.

Tranmere could not offer a significant threat until centre forward Enoch Showumni back headed a cross from Aaron Cresswell wide of the right hand post on 37 minutes.
