Tom ready for All Whites win

The Kiwi attitude of quiet optimism does not wash with one football-crazed courier driver.

Tom Heath is so confident of an All Whites victory over reigning World Cup holders Italy on Monday morning, he has given his van an All White makeover.

White writing now adorns every window of the van, which travels from South Canterbury Jimmy Choo Handbags to Christchurch most days.

He's even predicted the score of Monday's clash: 2-1 - to the All Whites, of course.

Heath said he was an All White fan for life, after he was presented with tickets to a World Cup qualifier in 1982 by then coach Kevin Fallon.

"I'll never forget it, and when Rory [Fallon] scored that goal, I thought 'this is awesome'."

Fallon's goal against Bahrain may have got the All Whites to the World Cup for only the second time, but Mr Heath believed New Zealand had punched above their weight with their draw over Slovakia last Wednesday, and could surprise the Azzurri.

"A draw to me [against Slovakia] was like a win. "

"There aren't enough Kiwis who stick their heads out of the sand and believe the impossible can happen, and I believe."

The diehard Liverpool fan has written "dream the impossible" on the side of his van.

He said New Zealand had the players and the right style of game to make it through to the second round.

"With Ryan Nelsen and those young fellows working really well at the back, we just need to nick a goal, and we've proved in the warm- up games and at the World Cup we can score goals."

He said if the All Whites made it to the second round, it would be a "superhuman effort".

Mr Heath said he would continue to believe in the impossible as long as the players did.

"Hey, if Rory Fallon believes, then I can believe."
