Are successful entrepreneurs made not born? Fisher and Koch report findings from a recent study of 234 CEOs, funded by the Kauffman Foundation, Michele Watch which suggests that a substantial proportion of entrepreneurial behavior is genetically determined--that entrepreneurs are usually born, not made. They consider various aspects of the characteristics of entrepreneurs--their roles as risk-takers and change agents, internationalists and novelty seekers; entrepreneurial management and leadership style; relationships with their boards--and then discuss how the information might be used by organizations, corporations, and individuals to get the right people into jobs requiring an entrepreneurial bent. Fisher is the author of numerous journal articles and author or editor of ten books, including The Power of the Presidency which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize; Koch (Old Dominion U.) has published numerous articles and nine books.
